Provincial Assembly of Gipuzkoa

San Sebastian, Spain.

Client: Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa.

The location, a green hillock with broad views, is characteristic of Gipuzkoa, whose character we wanted to maintain, both for its own qualities and for what it evokes.

The ensemble consists of two separate buildings. The building for the Provincial Assembly, with a view to permanence, both in terms of time and in the urban sense of the term (A. Rossi), and the administrative building, with touches of rationale and efficacy.

In response to its dominant implementation, the building for the Provincial Assembly features a giant portico superimposed over the south façade. To the east, in the distance, the coat-of-arms of Gipuzkoa that presides over the interior of the principal vestibule is visible from the exterior by day and by night, in conjunction with the skylights that cover the Plenary Hall, which evoke the three green yew trees on the coat-of-arms.
