The demolition of the former public hospital left an urban “void” whose restitution to the public is of the utmost importance to the city.
The project affecting the whole block and its relationship with the surrounding area are conceived as a whole. A change was made from the current volume, centred on the plot and surrounded by residual spaces, to a harmonic distribution of the built-up volume throughout the perimeter of the block, leaving the interior space free, as a garden for the public.
As a first phase, two buildings: one horizontal, the nursing school, and another vertical, for the public offices. Dealing with the two buildings as a single unit, though independent, provides the necessary strength to occupy the space left by the demolition of the hospital.
