State School in Riberas de Loiola, San Sebastian

Loiola, San Sebastian. Spain.

Client: Basque Government

The location on the plot was determined by the response to the two main constraints: the shade of the adjacent buildings and the surrounding noise. We proposed a two-storey building with all of the classrooms, positioned with its long façades to the North and South, at the centre of the plot, equidistant from the shade and the noise.

The infants' classrooms were located on the ground floor, with direct access to sunny playgrounds. The primary school classrooms occupied the upper floor, with access down to the playgrounds at the ends of the corridors.

The remaining uses are housed in the other single-storey building perpendicular to the classrooms, connected to the entrance to the centre from the street.
