Health Centre in Logroño

Cascajos, Logroño (La Rioja). Spain.

Client: Government of La Rioja.

The rectangular floor plan corresponds to an efficient typology for health centres: the perimeter around which the services are distributed, a ring for circulation and waiting areas, and a central patio.

All of the rooms, without exception, have natural ventilation and lighting, avoiding the need for forced ventilation in bathrooms and other rooms, despite this being permitted in the regulations.

Just as the circulation ring is kept constant throughout the perimeter of the two floors, the waiting ring is different in that it is compartmentalised into 12 m² sections with transverse partitions. This layout permits the waiting area not to be seen as a crowded space, but rather as successive departments associated with the consultation rooms.
