Extension of the KURSAAL Congress Centre

Zurriola Ave. San Sebastian. Spain.

In association with Rafael Moneo.

During the last 10 years, the activity of KURSAAL has been growing incessantly.

The conference space is often used for other activities, such as fairs, that interfere with its intended use and damage it. In addition, certain conferences that are hosted every year, and other potential conferences, require more space.

We drew up a project for a 4,000 m² multi-use hall under the promenade, invisible from above, connected to the current congress spaces.

Above ground, we extended the east end of the building to provide an independent entrance to the new room, expanding the surface area of the offices on the first floor.

From an urban point of view, the current physical barrier that the access ramp to the parking area entails for pedestrians was eliminated.
