200 Public Homes in Leganés

Leganés Norte (Madrid). Spain.

Client: Municipality of Leganés.

In association with Luis de Pereda, José Ramón Gámez and Patricia Fernández

The urban framework of the new “Leganés Norte” district was created based on large blocks. Working on one of them as a whole gave us the chance to reflect, not only on its spatial distribution, but also on its contribution to the cohesion of the social fabric.

We approached each block as a “unit of neighbours”, the part of the city where each resident can consider their own and in which social relationships are close-knit, that intermediate level between the individual, their district and their town. It is in this regard that the collective nature of the block and its relationship with the town on the one hand and the homes on the other became the inspiration for our proposal.
